An R-C-M-P constable says the murders of three R-C-M-P officers in Moncton last year is a tragic occurrence.
But Terry Russel says officers have to keep in mind it's the nature of the job.
Russel says in light of last week's events in Paris, police procedures in Canada won't change drastically.
But he says, while their investigative techniques and intelligence gathering remain basically the same, what does change is the focus of their efforts.
Russel adds police will continue surveillance and other anti-terrorism measures, but the rule of law in Canada means people can't be apprehended for something they haven't done yet or might do.
Terry Russel is the R-C-M-P's community relations officer and was speaking at Grey Bruce Farmers Week in Elmwood.
"We serve the communities, we understand the risks we take. I have personal friends that have passed away on this job, from Thailand to Vancouver, and those are the risks you take when you have this calling and you serve your community and that's the same for all emergency services across Canada," said Russel.
