Politicians Push for Carbon Monoxide Detectors in All Huron Bruce Homes

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman joined the Insurance Bureau of Canada in presenting a donation of carbon monoxide detectors to the fire departments in Walkerton and North Huron.

The goal is to get the detectors in more homes in Huron and Bruce, and to raise awareness of these lifesaving devices.

It comes after Hardeman's bill to require the detectors in all homes was passed by the Ontario legislature last year.

Hardeman has been pushing for years on the issue but says that the delay on passing the bill may have actually helped as it gave time to show the public how important the devices are.

North Huron Fire Chief David Sparling says the donation will help to put detectors in 150 homes. A similar presentation was also made to the Walkerton Fire Department.
