Bruce Area Natural Gas Marketing Plan Crucial

A Huron-Kinloss councillor praised a Toronto lawyer last night for his honesty and frankness regarding the proposed natural gas pipeline for Kincardine Huron-Kinloss and Arran Elderslie.

Councillor Jim Hanna made the comment while listening to Mark Rodger update council on the $100 million proposal.

Rodger said that if new rules go our way by spring, then 2015 will be our year.

But he also told his audience that there needs to be a different set of rules for the tri-area community in its attempt for natural gas. He said residents want natural gas but are very concerned about how much it will cost to convert.

He said the goal would be to set rates low enough to ensure conversion, but high enough to make the entire approach feasible given the key elements of the overall approach.

Rodger also called for a serious marketing campaign, saying it's a critical aspect.

The mayors of the three municipalities will meet next month with the Ontario Energy Board Chair. They will also meet with other key provincial and federal officials.
