Huron-Bruce MPP Backs PC Leadership Candidate

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson is wading into the leadership campaign of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario by throwing her support behind one of the candidates.

Thompson announced her endorsement of Whitby-Oshawa MPP Christine Elliott during a meet-and-greet stop in Port Elgin.

Thompson says she believes Elliott has the fiscal management to lead the Progressive Conservatives, adding she's also impressed with Elliott's command of the issues facing Ontario.

Thompson adds she used the past few months to observe and question the leadership candidates, but says it was the events of October 22 and the aftermath of the shooting on Parliament Hill that swayed her support to Elliott.

"She marched right into the legislative house while other people were somewhat hesitant and trying to figure out what the best move would be. To me, I read that as there's only one place somebody should be, and that's in the House because the legislature cannot be held up over something like that," says Thompson.

Elliott's leadership bid is also being backed by Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker and former Bruce MPP Barb Fisher.

Also running for the provincial PC leadership, Vic Fedeli, Lisa Macleod, Monte McNaughton and Patrick Brown.
