Kincardine Council Closes Doors On Bruce Telecom Debate

A group of concerned citizens is not satisfied with Kincardine council's reasons why a meeting this evening regarding the future of Bruce Telecom needs to be held behind closed doors.

Alex Eveleigh spoke to council following the inauguration ceremony, urging council to keep this evening's meeting in the open, and not go down the same route as the previous council, which was found to have held improper closed meetings while discussing the unsuccessful sale of Bruce Telecom to Eastlink.

Mayor Anne Eadie says they will hold a portion of the meeting in open session to allow staff to present the history of the Bruce Telecom sale process, but adds their lawyer will be addressing council to present information for the new councillors, and that needs to be done in a closed session.

Eveleigh adds he was encouraged by Eadie's statement during her inaugural address that she would like to see the future of Bruce Telecom decided before the end of the month.

The special meeting of Kincardine council gets underway at 5:00 pm at the Municipal Administration Centre.

"I would like to solve this whole issue surrounding Bruce Telecom, as I said, by Christmas. But we can't rush the new council, they have to be informed on all facets of the issue," says Eadie.
