New Saugeen Shores Council Officially Takes Office

The new-look Saugeen Shores council is officially in office.

The nine-member council features six new councillors, who will have little time to learn their new roles before being required to make important decisions.

Council agreed to begin 2015 budget deliberations next week, facing declining provincial transfer funds and an ongoing infrastructure deficit.

Mayor Mike Smith says starting off with the budget will be a good opportunity for the new councillors to learn the ropes. Budget deliberations are scheduled to begin on December 9th.

"It's one of the biggest learning experiences that they will go through, about understanding everything that the community does and where our money comes from, where it goes and what the consequences of those different things are. I'm really looking forward to working with this group," says Smith.
