Perth Wellington MPP Questions Ice Storm Consultants Qualifications

Perth Wellington's MPP says the consulting firm the province hired to look after ice storm assistance to municipalities was fired for failing at a similar job in Alberta.

Randy Pettapiece says LandLink was let go when they were unable to handle Alberta's flood claims last year.

Pettapiece is now questioning why the Liberals hired the firm and how much it will cost tax payers.

The Municipal Affairs Minister says the staff at LandLink were hired as accountants not consultants.

It's been about a year since the major ice storm hit Ontario in December 2013, and even longer for rural areas hit by the ice storm of April 2013.

He says after all that time, the Liberals hired LandLink, and conducted webinars so municipalities could sort through all of the red tape. But he says the municipalities would rather have had that money to cover disaster costs.
