Bruce Power Emergency Text Test

Bruce Power will be conducting another emergency response test this morning -- only this one will be a text message.

In partnership with TELUS and the Municipality of Kincardine, Bruce Power will be testing enhancements to the emergency public alerting system.

TELUS wireless subscribers within about 10 km of the Bruce Power site will receive the free SMS messages at 11am this morning.

"Bruce Power is pleased to be working with both the municipality and TELUS to test this innovative technology that can be used to communicate with residents during emergency situations,” says Brian Hilbers, chief legal officer and vice president of emergency management.

Text message alerts are a quick and effective way to share critical information with the public in any kind of an emergency.

“While we have jointly developed this capability to meet our own Safety First requirements at Bruce Power, we believe this system will also be of great benefit to the municipality for more likely occurrences such as extreme weather,” says Hilbers.
