Meaford's Mayor Elect Wants To Stay With OPP Policing

Meaford's mayor elect will table a resolution at the next council meeting recommending the future council vote to stay with the OPP.

This week, Councillor Barbara Clumpus presented a notice of motion regarding the policing decision.

The motion will go before councillors November 24.

Meaford council has spent most of this year considering proposals from both Owen Sound Police and the OPP for police protection. They hired a consultant and helped public meetings in an effort to find which police service offered maximum police service at the least cost.

Clumpus says recently Meaford received information from the OPP that the second year of their contract would save Meaford $44,000 compared with the Owen Sound Police Service  contract.

The resolution also recommends that the future council thank Owen Sound Police Service and the city for all their work in researching and presenting their proposal to Meaford.
