A Decade of Huron Water Protection

Huron County’s Water Protection Steering Committee has been in operation for 10 years.

Huron County Planner Susanna Reid is the staff support person and has been with the committee since its inception in 2004 by county council. Reid explains the county was concerned about water quality along the shoreline as well as the increase in tensions between the shoreline community and the agricultural community.

Reid adds in the last ten years they’ve made significant progress in a number of areas, but probably the most important is they’ve brought everyone to the table and got them working together towards making improvements.

Reid says the focus for the immediate future will be on soil health and how they can integrate environmental issues and the economic drivers that affect people’s livelihoods.
