MVCA And Howick Optimists Get Grant

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority and the Howick Optimist Club have been awarded a grant through the Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund.

The grant is for $8,822.     The money will be used to purchase trees, shrubs and perennials to protect the banks along the Maitland River, as well as a low maintenance grass seed mixture and information signs for the site.     6.8 acres in the Gorrie Conservation Area will be converted into green space.    The total value of the project is approximately $17,000.

The Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund offers grants to local groups for projects like planting trees to restore stream banks and protecting and improving water quality by managing storm water runoff.
