Horseless Carriages Roll In To Huron County

Members of the Ontario Chapter of the Horseless Carriage Club will be in parts of Huron County this Saturday.

Gary Potter is the past-present of the Ontario chapter and says it's an international club boasting about 5,000 members.

Potter says all of their cars date back to 1915 or older. They are 'show cars', but they are road-worthy as well.

Some of them are powerful eight-cylinder cars and others are single cylinder cars.  Potter says they transport them from one event to another and then drive them when they get there.

The horseless carriages will be at the Windmill Lake Wake and Eco Park near Bayfield from 10am to 10:30am Saturday morning, and later at the CNR School on Wheels Museum in Clinton from 5pm to 6:30pm Saturday.

Potter admits it's an expensive hobby, particularly repairing them.   He says if the car is very rare, getting parts is impossible, so you have to make them yourself, or have them made by a die master, which can be very costly.
