Traffic Flows Studied In Exeter And Mount Forest

Changes have been made to improve traffic flow at the intersection of Hwy. 4 and County Rd. 83 at the north end of Exeter.

County Engineer Steve Lund explains they were asked to look at the intersection and found peak days, usually weekends, the intersection was a lot busier than normal, with volumes in excess of 10,000 vehicles a day, compared to the normal 5,000.

According to Lund, "when we reviewed the signal timing we found it was in favour of Hwy. 4 rather than County Rd. 83 so we shifted some of the cycle time over to 83 and that helped some of the seasonal traffic through, and that's on weekends."

Lund believes the difference is traffic going to and from the lakeshore on the weekends.

Meanwhile, Wellington North council wants more information before trying to solve a traffic bottleneck at the north end of Mount Forest.

Councillors had earlier expressed concern that the new Canadian Tire store now under construction north of the intersection will only add to the problem.

CAO Mike Givens told council that a new traffic study may be needed which targets some of the busier traffic times.
