Goderich Council To Discuss Future Of Ice In Goderich Memorial Arena

An issue with ice making may keep ice out of the old Goderich Memorial Arena this year.

Goderich CAO Larry McCabe says the issue is based around a recent report on how the ice is made in the old rink.

"There is a concern in a report from the YMCA concerning the ammonia system which is really the basis of making the ice in the Memorial Arena, and so there's legitimate health and safety concerns," he says.

McCabe says council has a report on the agenda tonight that will deal with the potential removal of the ammonia system. For now, it looks unlikely that there will be ice in the arena this year if the system is removed, and the future use of the rink will be addressed at Monday night's meeting as well.

"There won't be ice apparently according to the report, unless something changes, at least until after council discuss it tonight we won't know the ultimate decision but if the ammonia system is removed, there won't be ice in the arena," says McCabe
