Smoke From Northern Ontario Fires Covering Portions Of Bruce Peninsula

The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is notifying residents that the hazy smoke in the area is not from a nearby fire, but is coming across Georgian Bay from forest fires in Northern Ontario.

Emergency Management Coordinator Cathy Addison says the smoke became much heavier on Wednesday afternoon, but it's expected to clear out by Wednesday evening.

Addison says many residents have been calling the municipal office, which she encourages people to continue to do so they can assess each call on a case-by-case basis.

The municipality warns residents that prolonged exposure to the smoke can cause symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, as well as shortness of breath.
