Saugeen Track and Field Athletes Earn 31 Medals at a Provincial Meet in Windsor

The Saugeen Track and Field Club earned 29 medals at the Athletics Ontario Bantam-Midget-Youth Track and Field Championships in Windsor over the weekend.

They competed against over 100 other track and field clubs from across the province including clubs from larger centres.

The Saugeen club's medal haul includes 10 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze.

Billie Martin earned gold in the Youth Girls Hammer Throw, setting a new Ontario record for U17 and U18 with a distance of 55.25m.

Michelle Van Stuyvenberg competed as a bantam despite being a midget and set a meet record in U15 Girls Hammer Throw with a distance of 44.25m. She was mere centimetres from setting a provincial record.

Ryan Jacklin earned the most medals of any of the club's athletes, taking home a gold in U18 Javelin, Discus and Hammer and also earning a bronze in Shot Put.

The club is now looking forward to the Ontario Summer Games in London where several athletes will be competing. Athletes from the club will also be representing the area at the National Youth Championships in Brandon, Manitoba.
