UNIFOR Holds Carnival For Striking Goderich Mine Workers

Strikers at the salt mine workers in Goderich were treated to a carnival yesterday on the picket line.

Unifor member Josh Coles explains they wanted to set up a companion to the carnival fair that was going on in the downtown area of Goderich. He says the downtown fair was great so they wanted to do something similar for the people on the picket line and their families. Coles says they had two bouncy castles as well as a very popular dunk tank and a couple of circus type ferris wheel ride.

He says by the early evening they expected they would have close to 300 people at their carnival.

“What we decided to set up today was a companion to the Goderich carnival fair which is going on downtown right now. It's a fantastic fair downtown and so people wanted to come both to the fair and to the strike line and so we got rides in both places.”

“We got two bouncy castles because you know, our picket line is bouncy, we have a dunk tank which is very popular and then two other circus type ferris wheel rides.”

Unifor and Compass Minerals are back at the bargaining table today.
