Striking Workers In Goderich To Host "Community Appreciation Day"

Striking workers at the Sifto Salt Mine in Goderich are hosting a community appreciation day this Thursday.

National Unifor Representative, Glenn Sonier, says the community has shown tremendous support for the union and its members so they wanted to show their appreciation.

The event will be held at the Goderich Lion's Harbour Park between noon and 3:00p.m. on Thursday, the 28th, noting "we've had such a good relationship and such good support from the community we've been trying to help back".

Sonier says they've already had one opportunity to give a little bit back.   He explains the owner of Point Farms Market and Miniature Golf had invited any of the striking miners to come out and golf to take their minds of the strike situation.

During a conversation, the owner mentioned that he'd been trying to put a new roof on his building and the Goderich worker mentioned that he knew 350 miners who had a bit of time on their hands.

The next day a group of them showed up and helped put the roof on the building.
