No End In Sight To Goderich Mine Strike

Unifor's National Representative says he's disappointed by the position of Compass Minerals in trying to resolve the strike by unionized workers at the salt mine in Goderich.

Glenn Sonier says the union tried to reach out to the company to determine what was critical to the company as far as further discussions were concerned.   He says the company's response was everything that's on the table is still important to the company, and unless the union is willing to move, they didn't see any need in the meeting.

Sonier says that appears to contradict the tone of the company's news releases that portray it as being "family oriented" and respecting the community and worker friends.

Sonier stated, "When you look at the company's position on taking away pensions, benefits, having workers work 72 hours a week, mandatory overtime, none of those have anything to do with worker, family, community friendliness."

Sonier says they remain in a stalemate and the Goderich strike, now in its seventh week, continues.
