Expert On Domestic Violence Speaking In Owen Sound

A member of the Prime Minister's G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council will be speaking in Owen Sound this week.

Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth will host a full day workshop on Wednesday at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.

Guests speaker is Michael Kaufman. He's an author, educator, and theorist. His focus is engaging men and boys to promote gender equality, end violence against women, and end self-destructive ideals of manhood.

Anyone can register through the "Events" tab on the Victim Services website at www.vsbgp.com.

Registration is $90.00 and includes snacks and lunch. For more information contact Victim Services at 519-376-7474.

Wednesday's workshop will examine Kaufman’s efforts to engage individuals, families, communities and professionals to end violence against women.

According to Anne Elliott, Director of Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth, "If we are going to end all forms of sexual, physical, and emotional violence - including workplace harassment - we must deepen our understanding of the nature and causes of this violence".

Elliot adds, "we must help parents and teachers learn new ways to raise boys to be men and engage boys and men as allies with girls and women to build a society of respect and gender equality. And we must use these frameworks to develop action plans for our own communities."
