Brockton Council heard from an important delegation at their meeting Monday night.
Michelle Lamont of Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey updated councillors on the organization and the anti-abuse services they provide for women and children.
Lamont says there's a misconception that they only have the shelter service, which isn't true.
"We have our 24-hour, seven days a week crisis lines available, as well as counselling for people who aren't in residence at the shelter, and also so many other programs, like the Child Witness Program for children who've experienced or witnessed abuse," says Lamont.
Lamont says they also offer transitional housing programs. She also notes with things like the #MeToo movement, sexual assault is being taken far more seriously.
"Certainly because of the positive things that are coming out of the #MeToo movement and so on, people are realizing that the person who is the victim isn't the bad guy," she says. "So, therefore, people are coming forward more and it's being investigated more."
