One hundred post-secondary students from Bruce, Grey and Huron counties have received $500 Bruce Power scholarships.
Bruce Power began offering scholarships in 2011 to students from the surrounding area, to aid in the associated costs of pursuing a post-secondary education.
The company presented the students with their scholarship at a breakfast Friday at the Bruce Power Visitors Centre. There were recipients from over 25 universities and 17 colleges.
A number of Bruce Power employees from a variety of departments and levels sat on the selection committee. The applications were reviewed with system-generated reference numbers to remove any name, location or other potential biases, and all personal information was removed to ensure anonymity.
On May 22, Bruce Power also awarded a total of $20,000 to ten students from the Saugeen and Nawash Unceded First Nations, through the Indigenous Scholarship for Post-secondary Education Beyond First Year.
With this being the eighth year, a total investment of $400,000 in scholarships has been awarded to date.
