Goderich Mayor Still Looking For Health Care Funding Answers

Goderich Mayor Kevin Morrison says he was very disappointed with the lack of provincial representation at the recent Ontario Small Urban Municipalities conference in Niagara Falls.

Morrison says the only provincial politician at the conference was Ernie Hardeman and the rest of them were attending a conference in Northern Ontario.

Morrison says one of the issues he had been hoping to discuss was health care. He says people assume health care is the responsibility of the province but he maintains that's not the case anymore.

"There's more and more downloading when it comes to the responsibilities of municipalities. That's even locally, here, we're continually having to raise funds when it comes to equipment and different programs and services that we offer," stated Morrison.

The mayor says if the province isn't prepared to assume all of the responsibility for health care they should make changes and provide funding to the municipalities to do what has to be done.

He suggests the government could have spared a few of their members so they could be available to answer questions at the OSUM conference.
