Cycling For Cancer Fundraiser Thursday In Owen Sound

The seventh annual "Inside Ride" goes Thursday in Owen Sound.

Hundreds of students will ride stationary bikes at the Owen Sound District Secondary School to raise money to help families whose children have cancer.

It's being organized by an Owen Sound area family whose son died of cancer. Brendan Rourke was an OSCVI student who passed away in 2012 at the age of 19.

His father Neal says Inside Ride is a good time for a good cause.

"If you're an organizer of the event such as I am you sometimes just call it organized chaos. High energy, lots of loud music, emcee led and it's a really exciting time when kids can help kids with cancer," says Rourke.

He also points out that while cancer treatment is covered, the costs involved are not. He says it can cost a family thousands of dollars for travel, food and accommodation.

To donate to Inside Ride go to the Owen Sound District Secondary School website and follow the links.
