MPP Lisa Thompson Responds To Liberal's Throne Speech

Conservative MPP for Huron-Bruce Lisa Thompson says the Wynne Liberals have run out of time, and the throne speech on Monday shows they're out of touch with Ontarians.

"They're calling for at least an $8-billion deficit, and they're calling it a modest deficit? I mean, come on, Ontario has had enough of the downloading onto taxpayers' shoulders because of the mismanagement of this Liberal government," she says.

Thompson says this budget deficit is unacceptable after the Liberals promised years of balanced budgets, among many other broken promises, particularly ones that have affected voters in rural areas. She notes that one of the biggest errors made by the Wynne Liberals was their handling of the hydro file, and the effect on rural Ontario has been especially profound.

"We were just talking in question period today, about how they are causing our cost of living in rural Ontario to go up again," she says. "They are actually increasing the rent of hydro poles for cable and digital companies to connect to. So anyone on cable, they can expect their cable bills to go up, as well."

The Progressive Conservatives held a unity rally Monday night, and Thompson says the support shown for new leader Doug Ford and the party as a whole was excellent.

"At the rally last night there were over 2,000 people, and it was only promoted over the weekend. People were there from Peterborough, Niagara Falls, and all over Ontario, to let us know under Doug Ford's leadership, they want to support our united Progressive Conservative party, and see us defeat the Liberals and form government on June 7."

Kathleen Wynne's Liberals stated in the Throne Speech that it is "Time To Care", but Thompson says it's far too late for that.

"The Throne Speech implied 'It's Time To Care', but I'm afraid the Liberal governments definition of caring is essentially sharing more debt and spreading it out, not only through Ontario on tax payer's shoulders, but they're also choosing to kick that debt can down the road to future generations," says Thompson.

Thompson says that's unacceptable, and people have been showing great support so far in pre-election polls toward the Conservatives under Ford.
