West Perth Gets Connecting Links Funding

Provincial Transportation Minister Kathryn McGarry presented the mayor of West Perth with a cheque from the Provincial Connecting Link Fund Thursday afternoon.

The cheque was for $434,000.   That's roughly 90% of the cost of re-surfacing a 1 km section of the main street of Mitchell from Blanchard St. to the town limits of what used to be the town of Mitchell.

Mayor Walter McKenzie says the road is the main corridor from Goderich and is used by salt trucks from the Compass Salt Mine as well trucks travelling to and from the grain elevators in Goderich.

McKenzie hopes to have the project completed this year.

"The total cost will be over half a million dollars and the province is giving us $434,000," stated McKenzie.  "I believe that is 90% of the estimated cost and we have to come up with another roughly $43,000 to 50,000$."
