Three Gas Drive-Offs Linked, Arthur Man Charged

A number of gas stations in Wellington County have been the target of thieves.

Around 4am Tuesday morning, OPP officers responded to a report of a possible break and enter to the Brucedale XTR Gas Station on County Rd. 124, in the Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

Police discovered the front entrance of the gas station had been smashed in by a vehicle. Suspects stole lottery tickets and left the scene.

Wellington County OPP was later notified by Brant County OPP that they had the suspect vehicle stopped in their area and two suspects in custody. Charges are pending.

Police have also arrested an Arthur man after investigating three separate gas drive-offs. The first occurred February 14 in Arthur, the second in the Township of Middlesex Centre on February 22, and the third on February 25 in Fergus. The suspect's description and a stolen licence plate linked each theft of gas.

A suspect was later arrested north of Guelph and found to be in the possession of methamphetamine.

A 31-year-old man from Arthur has been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of methamphetamine. He appears in Guelph Court on April 6.
