Dutchmen and Sugar Kings Begin Conference Quarter Finals with Wins

Elmira 5 Brampton 3

The Elmira Sugar Kings scored three back-to-back goals in the second and went on to beat Brampton 5-3 to take a 1-0 lead in their GOJHL Conference Quarter Final.

Zack Cameron scored and set up another for the Sugar Kings. Tyler Beauparlant and Jeff Jordan each had two assists in the win.

Ryan Takamatsu's short handed goal at 13:37 of the second would stand as the game winner. Ethan Skinner added insurance for the Sugar Kings late in the third.

Elmira was 2-4 with the man advantage with both power play goals coming in the second period.

Tyler Mazzocato earned the win with 15 saves. Travis Smith stopped 41 of 46 shots before being replaced late in the third by Joshua Eisfeld. Eisfeld allowed in the only shot he faced.

The Sugar Kings out shot the Bombers 47-18.

Game 2 is tomorrow night in Brampton.

Kitchener 3 Waterloo 2

Sean Kawalec's unassisted goal midway through the second would stand as the game winner as Kitchener held on to beat Waterloo 3-2. The Dutchmen lead the first round playoff series 1-0.

Zach Leonard opened the scoring for the Siskins at 6:38 of the first but the lead would be short lived. Austin Gaboury answered for the Dutchmen less than a minute later on the power play.

Matt Marinier gave the Dutchmen the lead early in the second and Kawalec's goal made it 3-1 heading into the third.

Leonard's second goal of the game put the Siskins within a point with just over three-and-a-half minutes remaining.

Matthew Chan earned the win in net for Kitchener with 25 saves. Brett Miller stopped 26 shots for the Siskins.

Game 2 is tonight in Kitchener. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
