PJHL Wrap: Hawks Advance in Pollock Division Playoff

The Walkerton Hawks advanced to the Pollock Division Playoffs with a 4-2 win over Hanover in Game 5.

Hanover took a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals by Kyler Borth and Jared Liesemer in the latter half of the opening frame.

Spencer Elder scored back-to-back goals at 6:53 and 9:06 of the second to tie the game. Reid Simmons had the goal-ahead-goal on the power play at 14:46.

Brendan Welsh added insurance for the Hawks with a power play goal at 12:38 of the third. Overall the Hawks were 3 for 10 with the man advantage.

Mathew Donnelly earned the win with 18 saves.

Walkerton won the series 4-1 and now faces the Kincardine Bulldogs in the second round of the playoffs. Wingham will play Mount Forest

Exeter 6 Port Stanley 1

The Exeter Hawks tied their series against Port Stanley at a game apiece with a 6-1 win yesterday.

Jonathon Frook scored unassisted in the first two minutes of the game to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Max Bannon made it 2-0 early in the second before Dawson Maton put the Sailors on the board at 7:12.

Troy Kennedy and Nick Overholt found the back of the net in the latter half of the middle frame to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead heading into the third.

A pair of power play goals capped the final period for Exeter with both Austin Carter and Ian Vandenheuvel scoring with the man advantage just a-minute-and-21-seconds apart.

Game 3 is Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in Port Stanley.
