Goderich Hospital Foundation Asks For Grant From Council

Members of the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Foundation in Goderich presented a request for funding at Monday night's Goderich council meeting.

Foundation Coordinator Shannon LaHay explained to council they're looking for a grant of $50,000 to help cover the cost of replacing all of their IV pumps at the hospital.

LaHay said the current pumps are obsolete and by replacing them all at the same time, they'll get a better price as well as be able to train all of their staff on the same equipment.

LaHay added getting the newer pumps makes them compliant with other hospitals in Huron County which means patients all get the same care.

LaHay also explained the province covers operating expenses for hospitals but does not cover any of the cost for patient equipment, so that is left to the community. She said they do a lot of fund-raising for that and they also rely on donations from the community.

Goderich council referred the request to budget discussions.

"The biggest reason is technology," said LaHay. "New technology has come about and replacing all of them means the hospital can get a better price. All of the technology is the same so all of our staff are trained on the same equipment, they're able to go from any unit, any department and still use the same equipment."
