Education Fund Benefits Local School Board

The treasurer of the Avon Maitland District School Board says the Board will receive $838,000 through the Provincial Rural and Northern Education Fund.

Cheri Carter says the fund is part of the government's plan to strengthen rural education.

The goal is to enhance education for rural students as well as improve programming, provide money for additional transportation,  and expand the virtual learning or AMCEC school, which helps all secondary school students.

Carter says funding will go to all of the Avon Maitland schools with the exception of those in the Stratford area.

“We were able to look at the fund and the ministry's purpose for giving us the money, which is to enhance education for our rural students and to enhance programming, a little bit of extra transportation and enhancements to our virtual learning, our AMDEC school," she says.

"We haven't had any indication it'll continue in 2018-2019, of course, we're very hopeful and when the ministry asked for feedback on our budgets for our coming year, of course, we expressed a strong desire for that funding to continue.”
