Local Council Asks Nextera Energy To Reconsider Offer

Bluewater council has asked Nextera Energy to reconsider its latest offer under the Vibrancy Fund.

The latest offer is for $1,000 less per kilowatt than the original offer. But Mayor Tyler Hessel says council's biggest concern with the latest offer is a termination clause that would allow Nextera to terminate the agreement at any time with 15 days notice. Hessel says they've sent a letter back to Nextera asking them to reconsider the latest offer and in particular the termination clause. Hessel points out council would also like to get the larger amount of money; a report states the difference between the original agreement and the new one will cost the municipality about $2.2-million over the life of the contract.

But he says the termination is the bigger concern at this point. The turbines have been running for over a year now and the municipality has yet to receive any money from the Vibrancy Fund.
