Local Londesborough Native Prepares For Me2We Kenya Trip

A local woman is prepping for a big journey.

Lexi Merner, a Londesborough native, is heading to Kenya in May. She will be staying nearly a whole month, and gave some details on the purpose of her trip.

"I'm going and staying in a little community on the Masai Mara, which is a giant savanna in Kenya. Mainly the focus of the trip is women empowerment, so I'm spending a lot of time with the women in the community and their kids, and learning about their struggles and what they do on a day-to-day basis."

The trip is in conjunction with Me2We, and on top of helping the villagers learn English and helping out with local activities, Lexi says the trip serves another purpose as well.

"Me2We has put together this project that allows the women in these communities to make these beautiful beaded bracelets, and sell them online on the website and make a profit. So it's helping them do things that they already do anyway for their culture just to make some money," she says

To help support Lexi, the Clinton and Londesborough Lion's Clubs are hosting can and bottle drives, and donations go toward Lexi's trip. She also has a GoFundMe page titled "Lexi Merner Kenya Fundraiser Trip" to donate. She leaves May 4 until May 24.
