Pine Echo Camp: Cans For A Cause

A charity can and bottle drive over the last two summers has turned into a donation toward new medical equipment for the Wingham and District Hospital.

Campers at Pine Echo Camp in Belmore were asked to leave their empty cans and bottles at a collection centre at the campground during the summers of 2016 and 2017. Cash from the returns would be donated.

The project transformed into a $2,000 donation to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation.

The money will go toward the ongoing redevelopment work at the Wingham Hospital and support the purchase of new medical equipment.

The campground owner’s son, Kyle Grant, is a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Military Police. His sister, Tianna, is a paramedic with Bruce County Paramedic Services.

With both siblings working in the field of emergency services, the decision was made to donate the money from the can and bottle drive to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation.

"Every summer at least one visitor to the campground ends up at the local hospital. We are lucky to have it nearby and those who visit always report receiving excellent care," say the Grants.
