Hope Grey-Bruce Staff Picket As Contract Talks Continue

The staff at Hope Grey Bruce are unhappy with their employer.

A group conducted an information picket outside their office in Hanover on Tuesday. Hope Grey Bruce provides mental health and addiction services. The 66 members of the OPSEU bargaining unit are negotiating their first contract.

Union spokesperson Andrew Drake says negotiations are not going well. He says the employer has offered a 0% wage increase and 0% benefit enhancements.

"People are out here on their lunch hour because we don't want to have to go to a strike position so we're just trying to get the message out and demonstrate that we are together and we are united in wanting a fair deal with our employer," says Drake.

The next step is conciliation between Hope Grey Bruce employees and management. That's planned for early January.
