Integrity Commissioner Hands Down Southgate Ruling

The mayor of Southgate and a member of council have been cleared of allegations that they violated the municipal Code of Conduct.

Integrity Commissioner John Mascarin found Councillor Christine Gordon had a right to read out four letters from a ratepayer, even though they were almost identical and disparaging of municipal staff.

And he found that Mayor Anna Marie Fosbrooke obeyed the letter of the code, although possibly not its spirit, by applying for two ministerial meetings at a conference without telling staff or fellow councillors.

Southgate Councillor Dale Pallister argued that the integrity commissioner failed by not taking into consideration the history of relations between two factions on council.
