Grey-Bruce Medication Return Blitz Starts Tuesday

Residents in Grey and Bruce counties are being encouraged to clean out their medicine cabinets this week.

A Medication Return Blitz asks people to drop off old or unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medications at participating pharmacies across Grey and Bruce between December 13 and 20.

The campaign tries to educate residents about the proper disposal and storage of medications, reduce the amount of circulating unused or expired medication -- especially opioid pain relievers, and to build understanding of non-medicinal use of medication.

A successful campaign in September saw the Grey Bruce Health Unit partner with the Owen Sound Attack and Rexall Pharma Plus in downtown Owen Sound.

Unused medication should always be returned to your local pharmacy for safe disposal.

Medication Drop-Off Locations are:

Durham IDA Drug Mart – Garafraxa Rd. N, Durham McKenzie’s Pharmacy – Berford St., Wiarton Kristen’s Pharmacy – Albert St. S, Unit 3, Southampton Markdale IDA Pharmacy – Toronto St. N, Markdale Sauble Pharmacy – Main St. N, Sauble Beach Peninsula Pharmacy – Main St., Lion’s Head Gordon’s Pharmasave – Queen St., Kincardine Wardrop Pharmasave – Goderich St., Port Elgin Lucknow Pharmasave – Campbell St., Lucknow

Anyone who drops off old/unused medication at the Durham IDA Drug Mart in Durham, McKenzie’s Pharmacy in Wiarton and at Kristen’s Pharmacy in Southampton will receive a ticket to one of the participating WOAA Senior hockey team’s home games.
