Goderich Opens Debate On Water Meters

Goderich council has asked staff to look into the cost of going to water meters in the town.

The point was made at a special meeting Monday night that most towns the size of Goderich or larger have meters and Mayor Kevin Morrison says he suspects at some point the province will mandate that Goderich goes to meters.

Morrison also points out there is a chance for some grant money at this point and that likely won't be available when the province issues a mandate, so now might be the right time.

Morrison says the cost of installing meters would be substantial, but council wants staff to come back with specific numbers.

"The cost is substantial but it's something that needs to be looked at so I think what we're doing now is taking a look at what those costs are going to be and where we're going to go with it," says Morrison. "It's something for conservation to know what kind of consumption we have as well and it just seems to be the right thing to do."
