Hanover Mayor Leaves Door Open To Police Services Merger

The mayor of Hanover is still open to the possibility of amalgamation of the Hanover and West Grey police services.

West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles recently announced that West Grey council suspended discussions due to a variety of issues, such as where a new police headquarters would be located.

But Mayor Sue Paterson says Hanover will not be passing a resolution to suspend talks, remaining open to the possibility if West Grey wants to come back to the table.

Paterson says anything that provides savings, as well as keeping services the same or enhancing them, would be a benefit to Hanover residents.

West Grey and Hanover held several discussions concerning amalgamation, with members of West Grey saying it would be unfair to potentially-incoming council members to be saddled with a decision made by a different group of councillors.
