Owen Sound Hosts Explorer As Part of COEO Fundraiser

One of Canada's unique northern adventurers is coming to Owen Sound later this week as part of a fundraising event.

Adam Shoalts has just returned from a 4,000 km solo and unsupported trek by foot and canoe across northern Canada.

He will be the guest speaker at the "Bridges" event, presented by the Council of Outdoor Educators of Ontario, the Owen Sound Field Naturalists, and Caframo.

At the event, Adam will bring stories and photos from his most recent adventure, including his encounters with wildlife, and what it's like to explore uncharted territory alone. To round out the evening, there will be a "trading blanket" event. The "trading blanket" involves every participant bringing one item they are willing to present for trade. Everyone goes home with something they didn’t expect.

The event takes place on Saturday, November 4 at the Harrison Park Community Hall in Owen Sound, starting at 6pm.

Tickets for the event are available until November 1, and are $60 each. To reserve, contact Deborah Diebel at 519-379-0864 or at deborah_diebel@bwdsb.on.ca

The Council of Outdoor Educators of Ontario is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization representing professionals in the field of outdoor and environmental education.

COEO acts as a professional body for outdoor educators, including teachers and teacher candidates, wilderness trip guides, summer camp staff, Conservation Authority and Ontario Parks educators, university professors and students, and forest kindergarten practitioners.

A number of Bluewater District School Board teachers belong to, or have belonged to COEO and sit on the Board of Directors.

All proceeds from the Owen Sound 'Bridges' evening November 4th will support COEO’s Bursary Fund.
