Billy Bishop's Granddaughter Part Of Owen Sound Tribute

There was a special ceremony in Owen Sound Sunday to honour war veterans at the 17th annual Honouring Our Local Veterans event. Friends, family, dignitaries and others honoured 11 veterans this year.

Canada's most celebrated World War One flying ace, Owen Sound native Billy Bishop, received the recognition posthumously.

His granddaughter Diana Bishop was among those at the ceremony.

"They talk a lot about my grandfather being one of the most decorated war heroes ever but he's just the symbol for all of the heroes that go to war," Diana says.

The Honouring Our Local Veterans event is put on every year at the Owen Sound Legion by the Billy Bishop Home and Museum.

The other ten veterans honoured are: Benjamen Watson, Glenwood Lees, James MacArthur, Alison Gosling, Pieter Reinders, Jim Mitchell, Timothy Northcotte, Wallace Edwards, Davey Gardner and Peter Kipp.
