GOJHL Wrap: Cyclones Win To Lead the Midwest By 2

Listowel 4 Brantford 1

Cullen Mercer struck twice in the first period and the Listowel Cyclones went on to beat Brantford 4-1.Tommy Hoogars opened the scoring with a short handed goal at 14:35 of the opening frame. Mercer scored his first of the game less than a minute later. In the final second of the first, Mercer scored again to give Listowel a 3-0 lead.

Both teams were kept off the scoresheet in the second. Mitch Deelstra made it 4-0 less than four minutes into the third.

Christian Polillo scored for the 99ers with less than three minutes to go in regulation, spoiling Justin Hergott's shut out bid. Hergott stopped 28 shots in the win.  Cameron Gratton suffered the loss for the 99ers with a 32 save performance.

The Cyclones now lead the GOJHL's Midwestern Conference by two points with a 10-3-0 -0 record. The Stratford Warriors are in second with 18 points and a 9-2-0-0 record. Basement dwelling Brantford has just 7 points on the season and only three wins.

Sarnia 6 St. Marys 2

St. Marys opened the scoring at 13:40 of the first period but couldn't hold off Sarnia and fell 6-2 to the Legionnaires.

Dalton Smith and Oliver Wieringa scored for the Lincolns.

The Legionnaires got goals from six different players: Zach Vanderwal, Jarret Marks, Joey Zappa, Brock Perry, Sam McCormack and Aaron Jamieson. Perry also had two assists for Sarnia for a three point game.

Evan Morrison made 33 saves in the loss. Will Barber earned the win with 30 saves.

The Lincolns are in last place in the Western Conference with 6 points and a 2-9-1-1 record.
