Date Set For Opening Of Huron Residential Hospice

The site development chair for the Huron Residential Hospice brought Central Huron council up to date at Monday night's council meeting.

Kathy O'Reilly started by telling council the Huron Hospice Volunteer Service officially took possession of the estate along Hwy. 8 at the end of August.

She also announced they're hoping to have three or four beds operating by the end of March of 2018, but added their focus right now is defining the clinical model of care residents of Huron County should expect.

O'Reilly also told council they have been successful in applying for a new capital grant from the province. She says the grant is up to $200,000 per bed, so they're completing the paperwork to see how much of that they'll receive.

"We are aiming for the end of March, 2018," she said. "We have plans in place to undertake the necessary renovations to ensure that we can have three or four beds operating at that time. But most of our focus right now is really on defining the clinical model of care... what services that residents from Huron County can expect."
