ICEtacular Requests Increased Grant For 2018 Event

Goderich council has approved a request from the organizer of the winter ICEtacular event for a slightly increased grant this year.

This is the third year of the event and Goderich has given a grant of $5,000 in each of the last two years but this year Elizabeth Van den Broeck is asking for $7,500 dollars.

Van den Broeck explained to councillors that they'd like to provide new attractions each year to build on the success of the previous year but budgets are a challenge for many of their sponsors so they need a little more help from the town. She also points out that ICEtacular is just one part of the town's Winterfest weekend but they also believe the visibility of their events draws people to the Courthouse Square on that weekend and that provides benefits for the entire community.

Council approved the $7,500 request but also cautioned they don't want to see that figure increasing every year.

We try to add something new every year, now this will be our third year so we have to yet look at what Iceculture has to offer. Iceculture is or course, our key supplier for this event and we want to see what new things they have and our committee needs to get together and meet first...ICEtacular is just a portion of Goderich Winterfest so we're just the committee that's bringing events to downtown, but what ICEtacular does because we're so visual is that people become more aware of the other Winterfest activities .... it just adds to the whole community.”
