Southgate Council Not Ready To Pay For Historic Sign Replacement

Southgate council has decided it is not getting into the business of paying for highway signs for historic settlements in the municipality.

Council received a request from the residents of the hamlet of Yeovil asking for a new sign after the old homemade sign, which was attached to a tree stump, blew over.

Southgate councillors were concerned about setting a precedent by paying for the new signs, which might trigger as many as a dozen or so other historic hamlets requesting similar treatment.

Southgate will see if the Yeovil residents are interested in proceeding with the new signs, providing that they pay for them and any future maintenance.
