United Way Challenges Perth And Huron Residents

Members of the United Way Perth-Huron made a number of stops across the two counties Monday.

Executive Director Ryan Erb explains they wanted to challenge Huron and Perth communities with a goal of $1.566-million, which is almost $300,000 above what they achieved last year.

Erb says there was a time when the goal was based on what was achieved in previous years, but the target is now based on what the community needs and what it will take to respond to those needs.

Erb says if they can meet this year's target, it will mean the expansion or creation of six new programs that the community says are necessary.

"We do research, for example, with knowing the needs with newcomers in our region," says Erb. "There are really no services for newcomers that are arriving in Huron and Perth so we want to open up a new program to support them so we do the research, we know what the needs are and people ask us to help and we're trying to help."
