Gillespie Leads Boys to Victory at Seaforth Skins Competition

Very difficult conditions failed to discourage the fans or the golfers at the boys against the girls Skins Competition at the Seaforth Golf Course Monday.

The team Derek Gillespie and Ryan Williams defeated Canadian Hall of Famer Lorie Kane and Seaforth's Robyn Doig but it took a 30 ft putt from Gillespie on the last hole to seal the deal.

The event was held to raise funds for the Huron Hospice Service as well as promote what the Doig family hopes will be the evolution of the Seaforth County Classic, which is a tournament for professional women golfers.

Kane says she firmly believes it can happen and that when it does it will be a great thing for women's golf.   Kane adds, coming from Prince Edward Island she understands and appreciates what small communities can accomplish.

“The guys ended up with $4,450 for Derek Gillespie and Ryan Willams , the gals, Lorie Kane and Robyn Doig ended up $2,750.  Derek Gillespie made a 30 ft putt on the last hole which was the difference in the whole event,” says Kane. “I think it's important for us as women to promote women and what I saw here with the golf membership, with the community, I think that it's something that can be done and it can only be done and improve women's golf.”
