Elementary student enrolment is up again this year in the Avon Maitland District School Board system.
Superintendent Cheri Carter says preliminary numbers indicate elementary enrolment is up by about 160 students.
Carter explained that about 90 of those new students are in junior or senior kindergarten, so that tells the Board that either parents are not registering their children for the board's Calling All Three-Year-Olds program, or they moved into the area over the summer.
Carter adds either way it's very encouraging news for the Board.
Secondary school enrolment is up slightly at this point but Carter says those numbers can change significantly in the early months of the school year.
