No Hepatitis B Detected From Foot Care Service In Owen Sound

The Grey Bruce Health Unit has completed the active surveillance phase of its investigation of potential exposure to hepatitis B, associated with Arseneault Foot Care Services of Owen Sound.

On August 23, the Grey Bruce Health Unit advised that an inspection of the facility on 3rd Ave. E found deficiencies with sterilization practices. A case of hepatitis B had potentially attended that clinic.

Individuals who received chiropody services at the Owen Sound or Sauble Beach Arseneault Foot Services clinics, or other non-clinical settings between May 25 to June 8 were urged to consult a health care practitioner about getting tested for hepatitis B.

A statement made on Thursday from the health unit indicates that initial results of blood testing of the individuals who came forward have not indicated the transmission of hepatitis B as a result of chiropody services.

However, testing of these individuals is required again in three months to complete the follow-up process.
