The Grey Bruce Health Unit now has an acting medical officer of health.
The Board of Health has appointed Dr. Ian Arra to the position.
Board Chair David Inglis says the current medical officer of health, Dr. Christine Kennedy, is on leave.
"Because Dr. Kennedy is on leave we do have to have coverage and that's really important. We can't rely on other health units to supply coverage all the time," says Inglis.
Dr. Arra has been with the Grey Bruce Health Unit on a contract basis as an assistant to Dr. Kennedy.
Inglis says the situation could last as long as six months, and in the meantime, it's business as usual at the health unit. He declined to elaborate on the reason for Dr. Kennedy's leave of absence.
